ABOUT THE ARTIST

Robert Wesley is a Perth resident. With some basic design and drawing instruction, he uses artistic fundamentals with a unique passion and eye for active composition to create his unique art work.

Many of his works are visual mind-maps interpreting peacefulness and playfulness. The art is a therapy for the modern world of invaded personal space, unwelcome noise and the pace of lost time.

 In his past, he has spent much time reading and observing the work of Matisse (simple lines), Escher (positive vs. negative), Iitten (colour composition), Picasso(multiplicity of planes), Mondrian(colour composition), Lichtenstein (hard-edge design) and native Australian and other indigenous art forms (for their story-telling).

Contrasts in line, shape are an abstraction aimed to please. Rhythms of lines move through many works as if listening to orchestral music . All working to contribute to the success of the composition

Robert discovered this art style as an outlet for his mind to roam. These paintings/drawings are the distracted abstractions of a wandering mind.


Robert’s art is an escape from Life’s structured timeframes, ridgity, conformity. Get Lost. Look deeper. Follow a line. Feel a sense of rhythm and movement through space – fast, slow, cornering the angles and sweeping through the curves moving figure to ground through the work. Enjoy some of the idiosyncratic scribbles, hatchings and points found in many of Robert’s works.

This choice of abstraction came after years of drawing real life. Then,  experiments with logo design and cartooning attracted Robert’s attention. Witness the next phase of Robert’s observational personal journey of world and self discovery.

Robert’s choice to use an abstract title is intended to allow the viewer to discover their own feelings from each work without the distraction of a title to clutter the mind. View to enjoy.
